The Founder

Dr Masoud PouraliMasoud Pourali, PhD, PE

Dr. Pourali has over 30 years of experience in design and engineering for high reliability organizations. He has extensive experience as reliability engineer, power system engineer, power system analyst, engineering manager, project manager, power quality specialist and researcher. He has provided engineering, design and consulting services to major data centers, mission critical facilities, information technology businesses, and major pharmaceutical companies. He has been involved in several international power generation projects and led various design teams for projects in Africa, the Middle East and China.

He has performed numerous mission critical facility site risk and reliability assessments including systematic evaluation of a broad range of reliability activities and tools, and developed short and long term actions to improve the site infrastructure availability and prolong reliable operation. He has also developed state of the art new functional point Bayesian Sensor Placement Optimization (BSPO™) under uncertainty, and innovative methodologies in Bayesian System Health Monitoring (BaySHM™) to improve systems
maintenance and operation.

Dr. Pourali is a senior member of the IEEE and the chairman of IEEE working group 3006.5 (former IEEE Gold Book)  leading the publication of IEEE Std 3006.5-2014; and the founder of IEEE Working Group: Generating Renewable Energy through the Application of Plasma Gasification. He also serves as the Vice Chair of Management Committee for The Reliability and Maintainability Symposium (RAMS).

He has published numerous research papers in technical journals and conference proceedings. He is the recipient of 2013 Donald Julius Groen Prize for the paper: “A Bayesian approach to sensor placement optimization and system reliability monitoring” published in the Journal of Risk and Reliability.

Dr. Pourali has worked with the Center for Risk and Reliability of the University of Maryland since 2003 and participated in several research projects involving risk assessment, reliability analysis, system health monitoring. He is also a Research Affiliate at The B. John Garrick Institute for The Risk Sciences at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA); and a former adjunct faculty at the Corporate & Professional Education Department of Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts.
